Importing Figma Prototype via Link: How to Prepare Your Prototype?

2 min read

Importing via link allows participants to interact with the prototype using the embedded Figma display feature, providing access to all Figma functions without limitations.

However, this display feature may consume a significant amount of memory, challenging users with less powerful devices (especially mobile phones) or those experiencing an unstable Internet connection.

Following guidelines while preparing the prototype for testing can help minimize issues on the testers’ end and collect sufficient amount of data.

How to Prepare the Prototype

By default, Figma loads all elements from the file containing the prototype.

01 Separate the prototype into a dedicated file, leaving only one Page with the prototype

Due to potential issues arising from a high volume of data in the prototype, we can successfully import it only when it's located in a dedicated file, featuring just one page containing to the prototype.

This prototype will be used in your research and subsequent reports.

It is crucial not to delete this prototype or modify its access settings, as doing so may cause errors for testers or result in data loss in the report.

How to Update the Prototype

If there is a need to update the prototype after importing it to Pathway, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the prototype from the Figma block in the test.
  1. Import it again.
  1. Publish the test.
